About Coalville

Coalville miner statueCoalville is a great town in the heart of the Midlands, and in the heart of the National Forest with great communication links. With Leicester, Birmingham, Nottingham and Derby all within easy commuting distance, and with a thriving community, Coalville is a great small town, with big aspirations.

With a current population estimated in 2003 to be almost 33,000, it is the administrative centre for North West Leicestershire District Council. It borders the upland area of Charnwood Forest which lies to the town's east.

The town grew up with the advent of coal mining and involved the sinking of shafts on the Snibston site, on which now stands the Snibston Discovery Centre.

The town centre boasts a fabulous range of shops. From small boutique and gift shops, through to chain stores including Argos and Wilkinsons, it's a great place to get everything in one place. Boasting a range of coffee shops, and ample parking, Coalville is both accessible, and convenient.

The Coalville Town Team (comprising local businesses and shop-owners, and the District Council) has been hugely proactive in trying to improve the town in a range of ways. We're always looking for ideas to help improve the town for visitors, shoppers, and locals too. If you have ideas, or would like to get involved, let us know through our contact page.
