Free Parking returns to Coalville

FREE CAR PARKING will return to Coalville from early October for spending shoppers in the town thanks to a brand new car park refund scheme.

From October, shoppers will be able to receive a refund on their car parking ticket by making a minimum purchase from participating stores and presenting the tear off slip to the retailer. A mobile phone application and website to explain the scheme will soon be available too.

This represents just one of several initiatives underway that have come about thanks to the action of the Coalville Town Team. The parking scheme is in direct response to one of the key recommendations made by Mary Portas, who states that: "Local areas should implement free controlled parking schemes that work for their town centres…"

John Merison, Chair of the Coalville Town Team said:

"The Town Team has strong representation from retailers who are all keen to make the shopping experience in Coalville enjoyable. This car park refund scheme is part of the Town Team’s wider plans to improve the town centre. The best thing that individuals can do to improve Coalville is to shop there and make the most of the shops, restaurants and pubs that Coalville has to offer.

Leader of North West Leicestershire District Council, Councillor Richard Blunt said:

"I am delighted that through the Coalville Town Team, local businesses have developed this initiative. As a Council, North West Leicestershire is committed to supporting and developing local business and the car park refund scheme is really good news for Coalville.

We know that people want car park charges to be kept as low as possible and as a result of what residents have told us, we have already taken the decision not to increase or extend charges in Coalville this year. We hope the refund scheme will encourage more people to stay and shop locally and to make full use of the shops, markets and services that Coalville has to offer."

The Council is now working with the Town Team on the details of the scheme to enable it to happen."

The scheme will cover all Council managed car parks in Coalville and will be available all day every day from October.

Remember car parking in Coalville is already free after 5pm every day and all day on Sunday!
